HQ Cadet Centre For Adventurous Training

A new season, a new lodge, a new travel provider and an even better experience, after many years CCAT ventured to pastures new. This expedition rested on the service provided by Emily and her team at Outdoor Zentrum and the diligence and professionalism of the drivers from Happy Days coaches.

Bavaria’s landscape transformed from green to white as we approached the Alps - we were confident the snow would provide some serious skiing for both beginners and the experienced alike. Temperatures rested at approximately -10 degrees throughout the two weeks in Germany offering sunshine by day and clear skies by night.

The aim of the expeditions was to introduce Alpine Ski Touring and pisted skiing to Cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV’s) from the ACF and CCF, further develop those who have previous experience and provide an opportunity for CFAV’s to gain an instructor qualification or revalidate existing qualifications.

For the first time we opened up all our courses on both expeditions to Cadets aged 16+ and Adult Instructors - this was done on the feedback from previous courses making the experience more accessible to all.

BSKI1 03-11 Feb This expedition provided an opportunity to introduce and develop 14 Cadets and 27 CFAV’s. 41 students attended with 8 instructors delivering a package of Joint Service Ski Foundation level 1 awards (SF1) incorporating pisted and touring ski elements.

For our more advanced candidates, we offered an Intermediate Ski Award (ISC) supported by Snowsport Scotland aimed at developing skiers in readiness for the Alpine Ski Leader Award (ASL). We conducted a SSS ASL enabling CFAV’s to lead groups of Cadets on pisted ski areas all over the world. We successfully qualified 9 Alpine Ski Leaders, 32 candidates successfully completed the SF1 award and 14 went on and also completed the ISC.

BSKI2 11-18 Feb Our Second expedition introduced and developed a total of 45 students, supported by 8 instructors delivering a package of Joint Service Ski Foundation Level 1 and an Intermediate Ski Award supported by Snowsport Scotland. 45 candidates successfully gained the SF1 award and 15 also completed the ISC.

The Outdoor Zentrum in Bihlerdorf near Sonthoffen situated in the heart of the Bavarian Alps proved an ideal location with 16 ski resorts and hundreds of touring routes within a 30 minute drive.

Skiing equipment was hired through a local company allowing easy access to repair and exchange services.

These expeditions proved very popular with 92 Cadets and Adult volunteers taking part, 115 Joint service and Snowsport Scotland awards were achieve at varying levels.

The Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training would like to sincerely thank the Ulysses Trust for their generous support.
